Kissa Khawani Bazaar Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa

Khyber gate is where the Khyber bazaar becomes Kissa Khuwaani (the old street of storyteller) is located in the city of Peshawar, in province of Pakistan Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The British commissioner Herbert Edwardes called it the main centre of attention of central Asia.

Massacre 1930


Movement 1930

During the 1930 massacre and firing of the British soldier on a crowd of unnamed protesters. The massacre at the Bazaar in Peshawar was a great movment to derive the British out of India. The first major confrontation between British troops and non-violent demonstrators, some estimates is of that time took from the death toll of shooting approximately 400 people dead. The shooting down of unarmed people, start protest against the newly formed Khudai Khidmatgar movement onto the national scene.

The moment Khudai Khidmatgar was literally as Servants of God was led by Ghaffar Khan, it was the group of Pashtuns grouped together for the removal of British ruled, by using non-violent methods. Because it was the non-violent moment, so were inspired by many people of the local towns, that they joined and take oath of membership in the Khudai Khidmatgar during protest.The leader of this protest Ghaffar Khan and other leaders were arrested by the British soldiers. A large crowd of people gathered at the bazaar though they are non-violent, british toops killed many of the people by armored cars,opening fire at the crowd with machine guns but the crowd remained un- violence even at that time.It was the most extreme suffering of the Indian independence movement.

  • Several publishing houses of books with a long tradition of publishing Pashto, Persian, Urdu book. Saba, Fazl, and Danish publishing houses are example of such publishers.

Most of the tea shops have led to the way to clothes and electrical shops. To the left and round the corner, in used to be the old bird market the brass and copperware are for sale. Bazar misgaran( Brass market) is a very famous part of kissa khwani bazaar in Peshawar.
