Men in Black 3, Sony’s third chapter of the famous alien comedy, beat the last three week topper, The Avengers. Estimates released on Sunday illustrated that MIB 3 dragged The Avengers down from number one spot of movie box office charts over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
According to the distributors Sony, MIB 3 made an estimated $70 million from ticket sales in the States and Canada from Friday to Monday. MIB 3’s leading stars are Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, who performed the exact roles they played a decade ago.
The Avengers drops down to second place with $47.1 million over the long weekend. Overall, it has cruised past a whooping $523 million just in the U.S. Worldwide sales for this chartbuster movie about a team of Marvel superheroes surpassed an astonishing figure of $771 million in 54 countries until Sunday, as said by the distributors Walt Disney Co.
On the third spot is the board-game inspired movie Battleship, which made around $13.6 million during its second week of release. It has done business of $47.1 million in total in the U.S. and Canada.
