A gunman opened fire at the university students in Damascus, at least one student killed and four critically injured on Sunday, Syrian state media reported. Pro-regime students were blamed for this shooting.
The assailant, identified as student Ammar Balush, went on the shooting spree with a handgun during exams at the biomedical faculty, said the official Sana news agency.
Sana also added Balush had “deliberately” targeted the five students, indicating no political motive behind the attack.
But the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the shooting was carried out by a pro-regime gunman.
“Four university students were wounded, including one who is in a critical condition, in gunfire by students who are loyalists to the regime… at Damascus University,” the Observatory said on its Facebook page.
Nine month old uprising in Syria caused more than 5,000 civilians deaths.
International community has shown deep concerns over the bloodshed in Syria.
