Indian anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare started his three-day hunger strike on Tuesday at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi. He took this step as a protest against “water-down” proposals of the parliamentary standing committee on Lokpal Bill.
Anna along with his team Arvind Kejriwal, Kiran Bedi and Manish Sisodia arrived at the venue. Hazare began his fast shouting slogans of ‘Vande Matram’ and ‘inqilab zindabad’.
Many hurdles were created on the way of Hazare’s convoy. He was briefly stopped by the protesters carrying black flags and national tricolor and shouting “Anna Hazare murdabad” on way to Mahatma Gandhi’s statue on Juhu beach.
According to Hazare, Lokpal bill is a “toothless” legislation that exempted key figures of the country. He and his huge supporters demanded the stronger version of the ombudsman (Lokpal) bill than the one being debated by Parliament.
Four months ago, 74 year old well acclaimed social activist Hazare went on 12-day hunger strike and forced the government to reconsider a new law tackling graft. He also got huge support from the people of his country.
Hazare had warned the government to go on an indefinite fast protest from December 27 if government failed to concede his “four non-negotiable” demands over the bill.
