The Khyber Pakthunkhwa Minister for Atmosphere and Forests, Wajid Ali Khan stated Thursday the Awami National Party (ANP) support a powerful, independent and economically stable Election Commission of Pakistan imperative for strengthening democratic system in the country. “For continuity of democratic system and holding of free, fair and transparent elections, a strong, independent and economically powerfulElection Commission is the must that will not only guarantee continuity of democracy but also ensure credibility of polls’ results locally and internationally,” he told reporters here Thursday. He stated the federal government has hired a neutral Chief Election Commissioner after building consensus and consultation with all of political parties and it is the responsibility of the ECP to conduct free, fair and transparent election. When requested concerning the need for Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri, Chief of Tahrik Minhajul Quran regarding dissolution of ECP, he stated it had been purely an unconstitutional demand. He stated judiciary was independent and media was free and when Qadri has any reservation regarding ECP, he should approach appropriate forums for remedy.
