Athlete of the year Chan

BEJING: on Wednesday Patrick Chan World Figure Skating was called as the winner of the Lionel Conacher Award as the Canadian Male Athlete of 2011.

On the eve of New Year Chan will turn 21 got 102 points in a poll conducting by Canadian sports editors and Broadcasters. He marvelously beat Milos Raonic tennis player (70) and UFC Welterweight Champion George St. Pierre (66).

With this award Chan got the 2nd major honor this month, who earlier was the winner of Lou Marsh Trophy which was presented annually to Canadian’s top female or male athletes amateur or professional.

Chan hit the third skater position and put his name on Lionel Conacher award which was previously crown to former world champion Kurt Browning (1990, 1991) and Elvis Stojko (1994).

Throughout 2011 Chan remain unbeaten and won his 4th straight Canadian title and world championships in Russia by setting record break performance, overall score and free program.

In the two Grand Prix figure skating events he also finished top of the podium and protect his Grand Prix final.
