Brotherhood in Islam

The importance of brotherhood in the eyes of Islam can not be neglected. Islam is emphasizing on this great relation. There are many verses of Qur’an and many Hadith available related to the importance of brotherhood. From Islamic prospective brotherhood means that all the Muslims are single body and are part of each other. The main reason for emphasize on brotherhood in Islam is to bring peace, love and justice in the society. It is prohibited from whispering in front of another Muslim brother as it will create some negative thoughts in his mind and will result in the weakness of brotherhood relation.

There are many verse in Qur’an related to brotherhood.

“The believers are but a single brotherhood” (the Holy Qur’an, A-Hujurat, 49:10)

Allah further explaining in Qur’an (9:71)

“The believers, men and women, are protectors one of another. They enjoin the Islam and forbid the evil and kufr, they observe regular prayers, pay Zakat, and obey ALLAH and his Messenger. On them ALLAH will pour his mercy. For ALLAH is exalted in Power”

In Hadith our beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W) indicated so many times about brotherhood.

“A Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. He does not oppress him, nor does he leave him on the mercy of others.” (Sahih Muslim book 032, number 6219)

Islamic brotherhood is based on love, faith, justice, peace and care. A Muslim is responsible to take care of the property, children and other things in the absence of another Muslim. By definition of Islamic brotherhood there is no difference between Muslims brothers on the basis of nationality, race, and color and on financial conditions. All Muslims are equal and are forbidden to cheat, hurt and show selfishness. This is the moral and Islamic duty of each and every Muslim to show love, sincerity, care, loyalty and respect to their Muslim brothers even in their absence.
