لَا تَظْلِمُونَ وَلَا تُظْلَمُونَ
“…..Deal not unjustly and you shall not be dealt with unjustly”
One of the virtues of the Muslim is that he is a ‘Muhsin’ (doer of good). He does not treat any one with injustice or cruelty and does not let any one do that onto him as well. “Zulm” is the term used in Quran for several shades of meanings; injustice, cruelty, wrong; but in each sense it has been forbidden in Islam.
وَمَنْ يَظْلِمْ مِنْكُمْ نُذِقْهُ عَذَابًا كَبِيرًا
“… And whoever among you does wrong, We shall make him taste a great torment.”
Our Prophet (SAW) said:” Avoid Zulm, for on the Day of Judgement, Zulm would cause all the darkness.”
Kinds of Zulm:
There are three kinds of Zulm.
1. Zulm in the relation with Allah
2. Zulm in the relation with humanity
3. Zulm on one’s own self
1. Zulm in the Realtion with Allah:
How can a person possibly do Zulm with Allah? By joining others in worship with Allah, by considering others superior to Him ( believing that people can benefit or harm you instead of Allah, by asking a human things that only Allah can grant etc)
إِنَّ الشِّرْكَ لَظُلْمٌ عَظِيمٌ
“…Verily! Joining others in worship with Allâh is a great Zûlm(wrong) indeed”
2. Zulm in the Relation with Humanity:
Zulm on all living things; humans and animals as well, is forbidden. It means that we have to treat every one with kindness, respect and love. Other people’s lives, money and honor; all should be kept safe and any afflicted harm on them from our side would be zulm on them.
- Our Prophet (SAW) said:”Momin always increases in his deen (faith)until he kills someone innocent.”
- “For Muslims, others blood (lives), money and honor are haram(sacred and not allowed to take).”
3. Zulm on One’s own self:
a) Indulging in crimes and sins is a zulm on our self as Allah and His Messenger’s denial of orders is the worst kind of zulm we could do to our self. How can we hope to earn Allah’s favor if we are defying Him openly?
b)Not taking good care of your body by keeping it clean, healthy is also included as zulm to one’s self.
Or Prophet (SAW) said:” There are two blessings that many people fail to make the most of: good health and free time.”
