Our Islamic year ends with the sacred scarifies of Eid-al-Adha in the Islamic month of Zil- Hajj. The new Islamic year begins with Muharram, it is the first month of Islamic calendar, it is among one of those four months which are called “Hurmat waly maheeny” and fighting is forbidden in these months. Muharram-ul-haram is the most respectful Islamic month except Ramadan. Fight in this month is strictly prohibited as the word “Haram” means taboo. Many Muslims fast in these days and the 10th day is called “yum-e- ashorah” which is the “day of grief” for Shia Muslims. It is the day that reminds us the great scarifies of our beloved “Hazrat Imam Hassan and Hazrat Imam Husain”. From it we learn a lesson of sabar and patience, control and scarify of our desires and also teach us spirituality.
Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar and it begins when the first crescents of the new moon is seen. There is 11 to 12 days difference in the solar and lunar calendar. Lunar year is shorter than solar year. It is migrated throughout the solar year. In this month of Muharram our beloved prophet Hazrat Muhammad P.B.U.H has migrated from Makkah to Madina, which is known as the “hijrah”. This is the turning point in the Islamic record and now Islam became more powerful and strong. This is the most sacred and respectful month for all Muslims.
