Nathiagali, one of the hill stations of Khyber Pukhtunwa is 4 hours drive from Islamabad. Full of mountains,deep forests, rivers, water falls and ofourse monkeys, Nathiagali is your stop for natural entertainment. The attraction of this area are the Pine, Oak and Maple trees which stand high above the ground encapsulating the entire area. The drive to Nathiagali will show you some of the most breathtaking landscapes you’ve ever witnessed in your life.
A lot of adventurous folk hike their way to the Governer’s house which is on top of Marjiani hill. This trek takes about 6-7 hours of going and coming back. Apart from monkeys, this heaven is also home to many species of birds, insects and butterflies which remind you of being in a glorious garden. Nathiagali also has a mini bazaar where you can find all your basic necessities and some good fabric cloth to take back home.
You could also do horseback riding, a popular attraction for tourists in the months of April – August. This horseback riding is not normally found in the other hill stations of Pakistan. The popular spots of this hill station are Thandiani, Kalabagh, Green Spot and Ayubia.
Thandiani is a glacier and it is recommended for a day-night trip. Kalabagh is a green appealing meadow with cafes and resturaunts. Green Spot on the other hand is owned by the PAF base and is a part of Kalabagh. Ayubia is a chair lift resort and if you want to lose yourself in the clouds, it is recommended to visit this place.
If you’re with 2-3 families, Nathiagali is the perfect place for holding barbecues, bonfires and games nights. Nathiagali is home to remarkable accomodation and hotels which are the best in the region. Or if you want to stay more close to the nature, cottages are also available for rent at dazzling locations. Visiting Nathiagali between the months June – August is the most preferable. It is cloudy at this time and may shower any time of the day or night. You can reach Nathiagali in a private car, a rented car or through the Daewoo Coach service. The roads are very efficiently built and wont be of any problem even if you are driving yourself.
Nathiagali is ideal for a 3 day stay especially if you come to relax your mind and to be away from all the hustle bustle of the city. You will leave this place bearing the quote in your mind by Wordsworth “But beauty seen is never lost” and hence remember Nathiagali for all the days to come.
