Raiwind is basically a town of the Province Punjab. Raiwind is a subdivision of Nishter Town of District Lahore, situated at East of Punjab. Its altitude from sea level is 203 mtrs and its distance from Lahore is 25 km. This city belongs to the pre-patition days previous to 1947. Raiwind city houses the largest railways track workshops in Pakistan. Raiwind city started developing in the beginning of 19th century; Raiwind was made an industrial zone in Nawaz Shareef’s government. Afterwards, its importance was more increased after Nawaz Shareef chose this locale his home, and made it more notable for the outside world.
During British Rule Raiwind was section of the tehsil of Lahore, the town was a junction on the North-Western Railway where the row from Delhi through Bhatinda connected that from Multan to Lahore. Raiwind is named next to Hindu Landlord.
Raiwind is also home to a large number of Private and government educational institutions. Earlier litracy rate was considered to be very low as compared to other cities in the locale, but now development in education sector has improved the life standards of the citizens. Hushmat Public School system, Gateway International Public School system and Khadija-tul-Kubra School are also offering an excellent atmosphere for study. A Govt. Degree College at Raiwind is an excellent place for higher education.
According to 1901 census; population of Raiwind city was 1764. Previous to the Feroze Pur Bhatinda Railway was established at Raiwind, it was a significant business hub for agricultural goods; and it owned two cotton ginning factories and one unit of cotton press, which had been an employment source for the hundreds of individuals. After independence in the year 1947; railway connections towards east were no more functional. There is a well-known educational institute belonging Mission Compound at Raiwind city. This institute has played its role by producing many well-known authors and political leaders. Getting education at Christian Institute in Raiwind is a matter of proud and great owner.
